A driver is a small program that controls a hardware device. A device can be anything from a web cam to your mouse or printer. The driver allows the computer to communicate with the device. Windows has a lot of device drivers built into it. That is what is known as plug and play. You simply plug the device in, windows detects it and loads the driver automatically. But windows will not always have the driver you need, so you will not be able to get the device to work without the correct driver. Time to start searching for the driver you need. The internet is the best place for finding drivers, even for old or obscure equipment. DriverGuide.com has a huge database of drivers and links to manufactures of hardware. If the driver is available you will probably find it through DriverGuide.com Its free, all you have to do is join. Search To search for the driver you need it is best to start by searching by manufacturer. The manufacturer will usually have a web site with the available drivers on it for download. If you don't know the manufacturer then the next best thing to search by is the fcc-id of the component. The fcc-id should be written somewhere on the component. If there is no fcc-id then do a search by model number or part number of the component. Here is some recommended reading material if you are new to the net and want to learn exactly how it works...
